20 Madurai medical students to be suspended over ragging
Incidents of ragging at reputed colleges, especially medical, are becoming increasingly unpopular across the country with each passing day. In the latest incident, around 20 students of the Government Medical College, Madurai, are likely to be suspended on charges of ragging first year students.

According to the Dean of the medical college, D Maruthupandian, a group of second year male students of the college had allegedly ragged 15 first year student in a hostel room on Thursday night.
Following complaints from juniors regarding the incident, the anti-ragging cell has reportedly decided to suspend the 20 students. However, the anti-ragging committee, constituted by the college administration, is expected to hold discussions and issue an official notification placing the students under suspension on Monday.
The senior students had allegedly verbally abused their juniors. The freshers were told to wear formal dresses and some of them were asked to put on shirt buttons, the Dean said.
As per rules, if students are found guilty of ragging, they are liable to be suspended for a period of up to six months, Maruthupandian added.
He also appealed to students to abstain from indulging in unlawful practices like ragging in the future.
