    General Hospital nurses to be trained in Japan

    With the aim to develop State health programmes, Health Minister Dr C Vijaya Baskar and other health officials, on Friday, held discussions with health officials from Japan as well as professors from the International University of Health and Welfare Graduate School, Japan.

    A release said that the team from Japan, which included delegates from the Prime Minister’s Office of Japan, Kenji Aya, First Secretary, Embassy of Japan, Dr Megumi Kodaira, Associate Professor, International University of Health and Welfare Graduate School, Yasunori Yawata, Chief Executive Officer, Next Sharing Inc Japan, discussed the current situation of Nursing and Rehabilitation practices in the Government Tertiary Care Institutions in Chennai.

    They held interactions with nurses at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH), Nurses’ Training Centre at KK Nagar and the Institute of Child Health and Children’s Hospital in Egmore.

    The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has been funding a lot of programmes in the State, besides improving the infrastructure at hospitals. A total amount of Rs 1,634 crore was sanctioned for the purpose alone, the release added.

    Stating that plans are on between the two countries to sign an MoU, the Health Minister said that Indian and Japan governments together have come up with a number of schemes which are being implemented here. Besides, he said that they have plans of taking a few nurses from the State to japan to work there as part of the training.
