Defamation case: Court summons Stalin

This is the first case against the DMK ‘President’ MK Stalin. Stalin should not take comfort from the smooth transition from being the working president to the top post.

On June 21, a state-level executive meeting of Minority wing of DMK was organized in Tiruchy. MK Stalin, who was then the working president of DMK reportedly made defamatory remarks against the State government and Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami. 

He also said that it was an anti-people government and thus, the intelligence department took this to the State government. Subsequently, based on the direction from the state government, Public Prosecutor Sampath filed a petition before the Principal Sessions Court on August 11 and the case was taken for cross examination on August 17. Stalin was asked to appear before the court on August 30. The case came up for hearing on Thursday and advocate Om Prakash was present to defend Stalin. Since there is a programme in memory of late M Karunanidhi, Stalin could not be present for the hearing and Judge Kumaraguru adjourned the case to September 24 and asked Stalin to be present on the day.
