Duraimurugan begins collection drive from Sun group
DMK treasurer Duraimurugan did not waste any time in his new role.
Chennai
Duraimurugan went in to the fund collecting mode on the very dais he assumed the office of treasurer at Anna Arivalayam, thanks to former union minister Dayanidhi Maran who briefed the former about the duties of a treasurer.
Minutes after Dayanidhi said that Duraimurugan has large shoes to fill and he would have to raise funds aplenty, Duraimurugan gave the young party colleague a taste of his sarcasm.
“The duty of a treasurer is to collect funds. Most of them who have turned up for the general council meeting are havenots. Only a few have money to contribute. Among the ones who can contribute, Sun Group is the richest. So, Maran, you should generously contribute for the party. I expect Maran’s Sun Group to contribute generously for the party trust,” Duraimurugan remarked, leaving the entire Kalaignar Arangam in splits, including Stalin who sport a broad smile moments before commencing his emotionally loaded speech, which was regularly affected by overflow of pathos.
“The only dissatisfaction in the meeting is the absence of Kalaignar. I would have been jubilant if this meeting had happened in the presence of thalaivar. I never thought there would be a general council meeting without thalaivar,” Stalin rued, controlling his tears with great difficulty.
