After inspecting the Karur railway station, the DRM told media persons that the electrification work of Erode-Karur-Tiruchy and Karur-Dindigul routes have already been completed. The total cost of electrifying the three routes is Rs 350 crore.

Referring to complaints about the train operated between Tiruchy and Salem via Karur not having toilet facilities, he said, “The train was originally introduced between Karur and Tiruchy. Acceding to the demands of passengers, it was extended to Salem. Toilet facilities would be provided soon.”

Proposals for operating new trains to Chennai starting from Karur has been submitted to the Railway ministry and a positive result is expected in the upcoming railway budget, he added.
