    Palaniswami along with Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and Speaker, P Dhanapal, laid the foundation stone for the arch to be constructed at the cost of Rs 2.52 crore.

    The arch will be constructed near the PWD office on Kamaraj Road.

    The arch which will be of 52 feet tall and 66 feet wide, will sport works on art to add value to the structure.

    After laying the foundation stone, Palaniswami said that the state government had earlier celebrated centenary function of former chief minister MG Ramachandran, starting from June 30, 2017, at Madurai till December 31, 2017, in Dindigul.

    “To honour MGR I had earlier announced in the Assembly on June 28 last year, that a centenary arch would be constructed for him and as informed the arch would be built,” said Palaniswami.

    Bicycle scheme for school, ITI students inaugurated:

    Later, he inaugurated the scheme of distributing bicycles for students of plus one and plus two and ITI for the year 2018-19 on Thursday. For the year, 2018-19, Rs 437.86 crore had been allotted and 11,78,790 bicycles would be distributed this year.

    Under the scheme, 5,06,132 boys and 6,49,758 girls, studying in plus one and plus two will receive the bicycles, where as 18,506 boys and 4,394 girls studying ITI will receive the bicycles. As mark of inauguration of the scheme, for the current academic year, Palaniswami distributed nine cycles to the students.
