    The Directorate of Government examinations is poised for total computerisation through Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency (TNeGA) at a cost of Rs 2.72 crore.

    Accordingly, all the activities starting from the application process to the announcement of results will be computerised. At present, the Directorate has been entrusted with the responsibility of conducting the State board examinations for Class 10, 11 and 12. 

    In addition, the Directorate is conducting examinations and issuing certificates for diploma in elementary education, government technical examinations and ESLC (Eight standard – Private Study).

    Similarly, various scholarship examinations, including National Means cum Merit Scholarship (NMMS), National Talent Search Examinations and Tamil Nadu Rural Students Talent Search Examination (TRUSTS) are conducted by the Directorate. A senior official from the Directorate said that currently, the application process for various examinations and its scrutiny are being conducted manually. Likewise, processing of migration certificates and additional mark sheets application are also being conducted manually. “The entire computerisation process is expected to be completed by next academic year,” he added. 

    He said once computerisation is completed, candidates can get the duplicate certificate or certified copy of the mark list, in case of loss of certificate or destruction by flood or fire, in a single day.

    According to the official, the logistics work for transporting of stationery items related to examination from one place to another will also be reduced once computerisation is over. The computerisation will be put in place at the seven regional offices of the Directorate at Madurai, Coimbatore, Tiruchirappalli, Tirunelveli, Chennai, Cuddalore and Vellore. Training will also be given to Directorate staff.
