According to police, Tejo (29), son of Ramesh, was a second-year visual communication student in a private college in Tirunelveli. He had come home a few days ago for the holidays.

On Thursday night, he went out of his house in Gandhi Nagar around 9 pm but did not return.

After a futile search, Ramesh complained to the Vellore South police, who registered a case and tried to trace the calls Tejo made on his mobile phone.

While the mobile tower signals initially ascertained his location at Konavattam on the Bengaluru road, the location then shifted to Katpadi.

Following this, the police launched an intensive search operation in both the places, but they failed to secure Tejo or the alleged kidnappers.

On Friday, the mobile phone signal was traced to Chittoor in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh..

Following the issue being brought to his notice, District Superintendent of Police Pravesh Kumar ordered the formation of 5 special teams led by Katpadi, Latheri, Vellore North, Arcot town and Ranipet Inspectors respectively.

Police said that the kidnappers who got in touch with Ramesh demanded a ransom of Rs 30 lakh for the safe return of his son. Further investigations are under way.
