Recognition made online for high schools
The Tamil Nadu government has launched an online procedure for paperless and quick approval of application for recognition of high schools in the state.
Chennai
The school management can apply online for the opening of a new school, initial recognition, renewal of recognition, permission to start more classes, upgradation to a higher secondary school.Â
The government’s move came after it felt that the process of applying for permission, recognition and renewal of recognition was cumbersome and time consuming. Moreover, there was no monitoring of such cases as there was hardly any authentic data for holding field officials accountable for these processes. Hence, the move to make the process online. Â
The request will be transferred to the concerned field officials. The authorities will then make a field visit to the school campus and forward the request to the Director of Matriculation Schools with recommendation for orders. The director will then, after consideration of all the facts and recommendations, issue necessary orders in consonance with the request.Â
Through this initiative, the directorate has committed to provide hassle free public service at the doorstep of the stakeholders. The government has sanctioned a sum of Rs 10 lakh for this initiative.Â
Upgradation of the high schools to higher secondary schools is done after ensuring the compliance of stipulated norms as prescribed by the government. Renewal of recognition will be ordered for a maximum period of three years and it is being renewed before the expiry.
During the academic year 201718, a total of 54 new high schools were granted permission to operate and 98 schools were accorded permission to upgrade the existing high schools to higher secondary schools. Â
High schools in the state in a collaborative effort with the state government are imparting education in English medium. In the beginning, these schools were administered by the University of Madras and University of Madurai.
