Kamal, Vaiko seek Bharat Ratna for MK
Actor-politician Kamal Haasan on Saturday said that the Centre must willingly confer the Bharat Ratna to the late DMK president M Karunanidhi.

He was replying to a question on the state putting pressure on the Centre for the same. The Centre must come forward without any external pressure in recognition of Karunanidhi’s contribution to the nation, he added.
Meanwhile, MDMK chief Vaiko also demanded that the Centre posthumously confer Bharat Ratna on Karunanidhi a day after DMK raised a similar demand in Parliament. While paying tribute to Karunanidhi, Vaiko said in a statement that ‘Kalaignar’ received love and affection from people across the country and urged the Centre to confer the Bharat Ratna on the late leader.
Moreover, Kamal said that he would use any platform available to him to speak on politics, in response to criticism that Makkal Needhi Maiam’s songs have found space in his latest movie Vishwaroopam 2. He said that just as the state government sees fit to air propaganda about the Chief Minister during the break in between movies, he was simply promoting his party at a platform that he has been provided.
Kamal added that if people felt that by curbing the release of his movies, he could be stopped, that was a misconception. He added that his political style is not just that of an MGR but also that of Gandhi and Nehru. He said that he tries to incorporate the best of each leader.
