Police said Aslam Basha (30), son of Samiullah who ran a fancy shop near the sub registrar’s office in Ambur, went to visit relatives with his family a couple of days ago.
Noting the house remaining locked, miscreants broke open the front door and then the bureau inside, from which they took the gold jewellery and cash.
Neighbours, who saw the house with its front door broken, immediately informed Aslam Basha who rushed back home. Upon checking, he found the gold and cash missing.
He immediately complained to the Umarabad police who registered a case on Saturday and are investigating the incident.
Police opined that the culprits were emboldened to commit the crime as the house was isolated with very few dwellings nearby.
