    May 17 Movement founder Thirumurugan Gandhi arrested at Bengaluru airport

    Immigration officials at Bengaluru International Airport detained May 17 Movement co-ordinator Thirumurugan Gandhi based on a look out circular issued by the police in Tamil Nadu.

    The Chennai City Central Crime Branch had registered a case on June 29 based on a complaint by one Haja Ammer Hussain Sahib. The complainant alleged that Gandhi delivered gave a speech before the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) meeting in Geneva, in which he was highly critical of the State government and the Police department over firing during the protest seeking the closure of Sterlite plant in Thoothukudi. 
    The video of the speech has gone viral on social media through Facebook page May 17 Movement, he alleged.
    Police deemed his speech provocative, and seeking ‘to cause rioting and inducing to commit offence against public tranquillity, with intent to cause fear to the public’.
    Returning from Geneva, Gandhi had landed in Bengaluru this morning where the outfit had organised an event about the alleged human rights violation in Thoothukudi.
