Justice M Sundar on dismissing the two applications arising out of a civil suit moved by Pyramid Saimira Productions International Ltd (PSPI) against Kamal and Rajkamal Films for recovery of Rs 5.44 crore paid for production of film titled Marmayogi, said “There is no averment that the sole defendant (Kamal Hassan) in the main suit (moved in 2009) is taking efforts to dispose of some properties or remove some properties from the local limits of the jurisdiction of the court which is likely to render a possible decree in the main suit infructuous.”

Also, referring to the release date of the movie and the two instant applications being brought before this court on August 3, 2018, the Justice said “In any event, 50 per cent of the suit claim, which is part of the suit agreement has clearly been secured by way of bank guarantee and it is not in dispute that the same is subsisting even as of today.”

Originally a civil suit was filed by (PSPI) for recovery of Rs 5.44 crore paid for producing a film titled ‘Marmayogi’ in Tamil and Hindi and that Kamal had not discharged his obligations as per the agreement and neglected the commencement of production. Following this, another suit was filed by Kamal claiming damages of Rs 11 crore against PSPI for the breach of conditions of the agreement entered for production of Marmayogi.

Kamal had submitted that the averments made by PSPI that he failed to commence work on Marmayogi was utterly false. He submitted that he had sent the script and dialogues to them but there was no response and that a song sung by him for the movie was also recorded by Music Director AR Rahman, who was paid an advance of Rs 50 lakh. Besides, this, shooting was also done in AVM Studios with actress Shri and Trisha as well as stunt rehearsal was also held on September 6, 2008.

However, Justice Sundar on noting that the parties will do well to seek for a joint trial of four suits in a manner known to law, said, “This court is very clear in its mind that a joint trial of four suits is not only just and desirable, but imperative and non-negotiable as it can lead to anomalies and complications if the suits are not tried and disposed of together.”

Fans tense as bookings open late for sequel
Kamal Haasan’s Vishwaroopam 2 is all set to hit screens on Friday, but several anxious fans had to wait right up until Thursday evening to book tickets to see their favourite actor’s new flick. While it is customary for online ticket bookings to open a couple of days prior to the film’s release (all the more so when it’s a bankable star like Kamal), theatres that were shut down after the death of DMK chief M Karunanidhi, had to wait for the all-clear signal to open their booking portals.
In fact, even some of the big names such as SPI Cinemas and AGS Cinemas featured the Vishwaroopam 2 bookings page on their websites only after 8 pm on Thursday evening, with fans constantly refreshing the pages and waiting. “We had to get the confirmation that the film was releasing for sure on Friday and there were back-end operations that needed to be sorted out. Hence, the delay in opening of the bookings,” quoted a source from the SPI Cinemas.
However, with no pre-allocated time as to when they could book tickets, several fans were left disappointed. “I’ve been waiting for this sequel to Vishwaroopam since 2013 and I wanted to watch it in one of the multiplexes. After waiting for two days, I gave up. Then I suddenly hear the websites are active – but by the time I logged in, all the seats were taken. Now I have no choice but to ask in one of the Facebook movie ticket groups and hope I get lucky,” rues Ramcharan, an ardent Kamal fan who has signed up to the 63-year-old’s Makkal Needhi Maiam also.
