Body of unidentified man found in Grand Anaicut canal
The body of 35-year-old man was found in the Grand Anaicut canal on Wednesday night and it was retrieved by on Thursday.

It is said that the residents of Kandithampattu near Thanjavur who went to take bath in the GA canal, found the body of a man aged around 35 years in the canal and informed the Thanjavur Taluk police.Â
Acting on a complaint from Prabakaran, the village administrative officer of Soorakkottai, the Taluk police registered a case, retrieved the body and sent it for post-mortem. The identity of the person was yet to be ascertained by the police.
Meanwhile, R Manikandan (24) of Avarampatti was killed near Budalur on Wednesday after he fell off the bike, which he was riding. The accident occurred when he was riding from Vallam to Orathanadu with his friends, D Raguraj (25), and S Sivasubramanian (24).Â
While Manikandan died on the spot. the other two escaped with injuries.
Student drowns
A college student, who went for a swimming a well in a municipal middle school, drowned on Wednesday.Â
Police said that Rahul (19), son of Srinivasan of Badsha Street in Arunagiri Chatram in the town, along with his friends, went for a swim in the well. As Rahul did not know swimming, he used a tube. Suddenly the tube slipped out of his hands and he drowned. His friends tried to save him, but in vain.Â
