5,000 private schools get temporary recognition
Following a request from the stakeholders, the Tamil Nadu government has granted temporary recognition to about 5,000 private schools in the state under preconditions.

A senior official from the Education Department said there are about 5,000 schools, which do not have recognition, as they did not get the required permission from DTCP (Directorate of Town and Country Planning) or LPA (Local Planning Authority) or CMDA (Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority). The Tamil Nadu School Education Department, in its order on Thursday said, the temporary recognition will be applicable till May 31, 2019.
According to the pre-condition, all the unrecognised schools should submit the required documents procured either from DTCP or LPA or CMDA on or before May 31, 2019.
The order also said that it is against the law to run a school without having the required permission. In addition, high and higher secondary schools should need a recognition certificate to send their students for appearing the board exams.
Education department principal secretary Pradeep Yadav said that the government move to give temporary recognition to the private schools considering the future of the students, who recently started their academic year.
Official sources from the department also said that transport department officials have declined to give fitness certificates to vehicles belonging to schools that are unrecognised. “This affects the students and therefore, government considered to give temporary recognition to unrecognised schools”, a senior department official said. The official also said that many private schools have lodged complain with the government that officials of DTCP, LPA and CMDA were delaying in giving their approval to the institutions.
Meanwhile, the school education department, in another GO, announced the upgradation of government middle and high schools in the state.
