Madras HC stays transfer of idol theft cases to CBI
The state had earlier stated that the decision to transfer the cases to CBI was taken since the performance of Manickvel was unsatisfactory.

After the additional Advocate General P H Arvind Pandiyan made the above submission before the special bench comprising Justice R Mahadevan and Justice PD Audikesavulu, the High Court on Tuesday slammed the state by staying the transfer of idol theft cases from Pon Manichavel to CBI.
The state had earlier stated that the decision to transfer the cases to CBI was taken since the performance of Manickvel was unsatisfactory. Moreover, despite the lapse of a year, not a single report was filed on progress made in stalling idol thefts.
The GO had earlier stated, “Some of the idols, investigated by the Special team, are antique dating back to thousands of years which could not be valued in terms of money. Some of the idol theft cases have inter-state and international ramification, that in few cases the idols have been traced back to foreign countries and the accused have to be extradited from foreign countries.”
