Physical education teacher arrested under POCSO Act

Sources said Tamilselvan was working at the Government Higher Secondary School in Sivagnanapuram, Thoothukudi district. He had accompanied the victim, a Class 12 student of the same school, for selection to a zonal-level Kabbadi game held at a government aided school in Thayilpatti, Virudhunagar district on Friday and Saturday. 

He then took the girl to a lodge in Rajapalayam for accommodation. While staying in the lodge, he sexually abused the girl. Based on a complaint lodged by the victim, Tamilselvan was arrested by the Rajapalayam All Women Police under the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, sources said.

Meanwhile, the Tiruvaiyaru All Women Police arrested A Sarathkumar (24) of Valambakudi on Sunday under POCSO provisions for sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl who visited his village for a festival. Based on the com-plaint lodged by the girl’s parents, the police arrested Sarathkumar.
