    CM inaugurates colleges, hostel buildings, presents cash prize to policemen

    Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday inaugurated buildings for colleges and hostels constructed at a cost of Rs 29.93 crore across the state.

    Palaniswami, through video conferencing, inaugurated buildings for college administration and education department for the Government Arts and Science College, in Thappugundhu village in Theni district, constructed at a cost of Rs 7.25 crore. 

    Other projects inaugurated on the occasion include extra buildings for Government Arts and Science College in Pudhupatti village in Pudukkottai district constructed at a cost of Rs 10.69 crore,  extra buildings for the Government Polytechnic College at Keezhapazhuvur in Ariyalur district constructed at a cost of Rs 10.69 crore, a small building with four class rooms in MGR Govt Girls Arts College in Tirupur constructed at a cost of Rs 70 lakh and girls hostel constructed at Govt Arts College in Udhagamandalam constructed at a cost of Rs 60 lakh. 

    After inaugurating the buildings, Palaniswami said that in the last seven years 56 government arts and university constituent colleges, four government engineering colleges and 19 different types of technical institutes are opened. 

    The colleges are mainly situated in rural areas to make education much easier for the students of rural areas and to help them acquire higher education. 

    Tangedco substations inaugurated

    Palaniswami, through video conferencing, also inaugurated 11 substations of Tangedco and the office of Superintending Engineer (SE) at the cost of Rs 85.62 crore. The substations are constructed at Poonachi in Erode district, Mangadu and Thirumukkodal in Kancheepuram district, Poondi in Thanjavur district, Uthukuli in Tirupur district, Ayyur in Ariyalur district, Narimanam in Nagapattinam district, Uppur in Ramanathapuram district, Punalkulam in Pudukkottai district, Varagur in Thiruvannamalai district and Kolathur in Salem district. 

    The office of SE in Krishnagiri was constructed at the cost of Rs 4.5 crore. 

    Chief Minister Palaniswami rewarded policemen who excelled in the 15th edition of All India Police Duty Meet held in Haryana in 2015. In the meet, TN police team won 16 medals, which included seven gold, four silver and five bronze medals. 

    Rs 5 lakh, Rs 3 lakh and Rs 2 lakh were given for the policemen who won gold, silver and bronze medals respectively. In total, cash prize of Rs 57 lakh was distributed to the policemen who brought laurels to the state police unit. 

    The state police unit, comprising 30 members, which won the best team award, was given a total of Rs 15 lakh. Five coaches for the state police team were also rewarded Rs 50,000 each.
