Health Minister announces 15 breast milk banks for Tamil Nadu
Around 15 breast milk banks are expected to come up in various districts in the state, announced Health Minister Dr C Vijayabaskar, at an event that was held to begin the Breastfeeding week on Wednesday.

Vijayabaskar said that the banks will cost the exchequer Rs 1.5 crore in districts including Tirupur and Erode. “As of now, there are milk banks in the Thanjavur, Salem, Trichy, Madurai, Coimbatore and Theni Medical Colleges, besides one in Dindigul, the Institute of Child Health and the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Chennai,” the Minister added.
So far, 14,530 women have donated their milk and 12,316 children have benefitted it. The minister also said that Tamil Nadu witnesses nearly 10 lakh deliveries each year.
