Justice T Raja, while hearing a family dispute between a couple wherein the husband lives in London and the wife here, posed a query to the State government about video conferencing facility in district courts after being told that for now video conferencing facilities were available only between the subordinate courts and jails. Citing lack of video conferencing facility, the husband claimed that he was unable to travel now and then to attend the hearing resulting in the dispute pending for long.

He sought for a direction from the High Court to the Cuddalore Family Court to avail video conference facility to enable him to utilise the same as he was unable to travel from London.

On Wednesday, when the matter came up for hearing, the Home department submitted that as per the directions of the Supreme Court, the Government of Tamil Nadu on July 4, 2017, had allocated Rs 22.83 crore for procurement of 233 video conferencing equipment and accessories, covering 32 districts in the State in two phases.
