Chennai
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami, Deputy CM O Panneerselvam, ministers Jayakumar, Sengottaiyan and Vijayabaskar arrived at Kauvery Hospital to visit ailing leader M Karunanidhi.
Palaniswami after visiting Karunanidhi at Kauvery Hospital told reporters that the DMK chief's health condition is "stable...he is well...a medical team is attending on him... Me and deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam along with DMK party working president M K Stalin and Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi visited him in person."
State ministers including Law minister C Ve Shanmugam accompanied the Chief Minister to the hospital.
Last night, a medical bulletin issued by Kauvery Hospital said: "There was a transient setback in the clinical condition of DMK president M Karunanidhi. With active medical support his vital signs are normalising. He continues to be closely monitored and treated by the panel of expert doctors,"
A medical bulletin is yet to be issued today.
MDMK leader Vaiko, Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, Actor turned politician Sarath Kumar, India Cements owner N Srinivasan and Director Vikraman visited Kauvery hospital to enquire about Karunanidhi's health. M K Alagiri with his family also came to hospital earler today and is still at the venue.
Meanwhile, DMK workers continued to swarm the hospital premises at upscale Alwarpet here despite a plea by police to avoid crowding the area and an appeal from the party leader Stalin to maintain calm and cooperate with police in maintaining law and order.
Police had late last night resorted to a mild baton charge as cadres did not disperse from the area to make way for DMK leaders to leave the hospital.
Earlier yesterday, the DMK high command released the first image of a bed-ridden Karunanidhi when Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and Governor Banwarilal Purohit ‘visited’ Karunanidhi in the company of Stalin and Kanimozhi in the ICU of the hospital. PMK founder Dr Ramadoss, MDMK leader Vaiko and a few other leaders also visited the hospital and enquired about the DMK chief’s health.
Karunanidhi was rushed from his Gopalapuram residence under the supervision of his son MK Stalin and admitted to the hospital at 1.30am Saturday following a sudden dip in his blood pressure, a day after the hospital said he was being offered hospital-level treatment at his house.
