    EPS in poll mode, highlights infrastructure projects for Salem district

    Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has shifted to election mode in his home district of Salem by virtually beginning the poll campaign by listing out the projects carried out by his government for the district.

    Several projects are being carried out in Salem, he said talking to reporters there where he is camping for the last few days. He said the works for the construction of a flyover at Five Road is going on while a similar flyover at Thiruvakavundanur had been inaugurated.

    The works for the flyover on the way to the steel plant would be completed soon and opened for public use, he promised.

    “Salem was identified as a city with heavy congestion when former chief minister J Jayalalithaa was alive. The required funds were allocated by Jayalalithaa for the projects to ease the traffic,” he recalled.

    Preparations are being made to construct railway overbridges at Mulluvadi gate and Manalmedu. He also said the government is planning to build flyovers at railway crossings at Omalur, Vazhapadi and Attur. The state government is also taking action to lay a bypass road at Attur and a tender had been called for the bypass project at Tharamangalam, Palaniswami said.

    When questioned about the bus port scheme in the steel city, Palaniswami said the government is studying the detailed project report prepared for the bus port scheme. “The AIADMK government would get funds from the Centre for the setting up of the bus port,” he said.

    Even during the MGR centenary celebrations at Salem, Palaniswami carried on with his relentless efforts to boost the infrastructure in his home district opening a flyover for public use and laying the foundation stone for two more bridges and a bypass road.

    Palaniswami has come out with numerous measures for his constituency Edappadi also. The Chief Minister is carefully nurturing Edappadi ensuring that it gets new schemes and projects in every department. 

    He himself announced desilting and renovation of Mettur Kizhakkukarai canal at a cost of Rs 49 crore at Edappadi, besides restoration of eight lakes in Salem. Even when it comes to new police stations and vehicles, Salem got priority getting three police stations and 22 police vehicles.

    Salem had been a stronghold of the AIADMK right from its inception and it won 10 out of 11 seats in the district garnering 9,68,458 votes in the 2016 Assembly elections. The DMK obtained a single seat getting 7,82,004 votes in the 11 seats while PMK secured 3,01,844 votes in the district.
