2 DMK men die of shock, Ennore worker hangs self

Police said Sabarigirinathan alias Senthil, 42 from Madathukulam Taluk in Paapankulam Panchayat has been a member of the DMK party. Neighbours and family members told Tirupur police that from his young years, Senthil had an admiration for Karunanidhi and would be in praise of the political acumen and poetic knowledge of the DMK leader. Over the last few days, Senthil remained depressed as Karunanidhi’s health suffered a setback due to fever and infection. 

“He remained completely glued to television hoping for a miracle to happen and see his ‘thalaivar’ in good health. However as Karunanidhi’s health condition continued to remain worrisome, Senthil became very distressed and died of a heart attack at his residence on Saturday,” said police. 

In another incident, Amsakumar, 62, a local DMK functionary from Kullakapalayam Panchayat in Pollachi died of heart attack on Saturday night. “While watching the television news, Amsakumar used to turn emotional and raise slogans praising Karunanidhi. Suddenly he suffered an attack late in the night and became unconscious,” police said. He was found dead by the 108 ambulance staff who rushed to the spot on receiving a call. 

Meanwhile, a 65-year-old DMK man had committed suicide by hanging at his residence in Ennore. The deceased S Raju of Annai Sathya Nagar was a retired employee of Thermal Power Plant. Raju, who was also a former block secretary of DMK in Ennore area, was worried about his leader following the reports and rumours surrounding the hospitalisation of the DMK president. “He was upset and was refusing to eat since Karunanidhi was hospitalised,” said his kin. 

Early on Sunday morning, his wife Muniammal returned home after visiting her daughter’s place and was shocked to find her husband hanging from the ceiling in the bathroom. Immediately, he was rushed to a nearby private hospital, but doctors declared him as brought dead.
