Speaking to reporters, Palaniswami said the DMK chief is being given appropriate treatment at Kauvery Hospital and recovering from illness. Karunanidhi is a former chief minister who was in the post for five times and he is an MLA. So, if any medical help is sought, the government is ready to do it, he said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had already promised ‘any assistance’ for Karunanidhi’s treatment.

Meanwhile, Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M Thambidurai lauded the DMK president as ‘a leader of the Tamil race’ and added he had worked for the Tamil race and language. “We have differences with him but not hatred against him,” he remarked.

Handlooms Minister OS Manian, hailed Karunanidhi as a man who rose from a humble background to the top position in the state. Politics is a tough battleground and progressing to the top position in politics from a humble background is a great achievement. The DMK chief’s achievement would find a place in Tamil Nadu history, he said.

Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran, who visited the Kauvery Hospital on Saturday said it is improper to spread rumours about Karunanidhi’s health and said he would pray for the DMK leader’s recovery.

BJP MP La Ganesan tweeted he would pray for the recovery of Karunanidhi to the normal state. Ganesan said he spoke to Kanimozhi, who said the DMK leader was taken to the hospital since emergency treatment was required. Going by what Kanimozhi said it came to know that there is nothing to worry.

The saffron party’s state president Tamilisai had already visited Karunanidhi’s Gopalapuram residence. Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, Ministers P Thangamani and D Jayakumar had already visited the DMK leader’s house.
