    Kamal slams ruling party, says political dignity missing

    Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan slammed the ruling government for its conduct and claimed that political dignity is lacking in the current climate. Speaking at the airport after his address at the NASSCOM HR event, he said that the AIADMK government’s position is untenable.

    In response to a question about the army chopper used for the aid of Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam’s brother, Kamal said that he was of the view that it was wrong to use the resources of the state in the case of the needs of a private citizen. He highlighted the example of MGR who even as a chief minister used a private airline. Kamal condemning the actions of the government, also said that there has been stifling of freedom of expression as those who voice their concerns on social media find themselves in prison. 

    Commenting on the controversy around his meeting with Karnataka Chief Minister, the Makkal Needhi Maiam president clarified that his visit was just to maintain cordial relations. He added that he was never opposed to the formation of the Cauvery Water Management Authority and said that the Authority was a necessary entity to get the resources that are due to the state. 

    Earlier, Kamal delivered the keynote address at the NASSCOM HR summit. He spoke about his motivation to enter politics at the age of 63. He said that he viewed it not as a sacrifice or an act for personal gain but as a move to help future generations.He said that his party Makkal Needhi Maiam will soon come up with a manifesto with the needs of the common man in mind. He added that the philosophy of the party is centrist and it is a growing trend and most aligned with the path of the common man.
