Arch rivals unite for students’ cause in RS
Members of arch-rivals the DMK and the AIADMK on Tuesday came together in the Rajya Sabha to raise the issue of the plight of students who take education loan from banks for further studies and face difficulty in timely repayment due to high charges.
Chennai
The issue was raised by Tiruchy Siva (DMK) during the Zero Hour, as he demanded that the interest on such loans should either by waived off by the banks or borne by the government. Members of the AIADMK also associated themselves with the issue raised by the DMK leader.
Siva spoke about the problems faced by students, who took education loans and failed to make timely repayments. He said the banks charged interests on the loans during the intervening period from the date of sanction till the date on which the repayment starts. Siva also said that the loans not paid by students were being classified as non-performing assets, which led to further problems for them in getting future loans due to the poor credit score.
