Minister’s aide murdered by gang in Sirkazhi

L Ramesh Babu of Thenpathi in Sirkazhi was a block secretary of AIADMK’s youth wing. He was involved in government contracts. Babu was visiting his friend residing in Pidaari North Street near Old Bus Stand in Sirkazhi on Monday. 

After the meeting, Babu got into his car around 11.30 am and was speaking on his cell phone. Before his driver could start the vehicle, a gang of masked men stepped out a car and hurled country-made bombs at Babu’s car. 

The scared driver fled from the spot. Babu was, however, pulled out of his car by the gang and hacked. The gang escaped after Babu fell unconscious. 

On information from locals, police rushed to the spot and retrieved the body. 

Although no information is available about the accused, the police suspect business rivalry for the murder. A case has been registered against the anonymous suspects under IPC sections 302 (murder), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 341(wrongful restraint) and 148 (rioting and armed with deadly weapons). 

They were also booked under sections 3 and 4 of the Arms Act. 

District Superintendent of Police Deshmukh Shekhar Sanjay, who visited the spot, stated that four special teams have been formed to nab suspects. Further investigations are on.
