Though 22 days have passed after the arms and explosives were found, no official had bothered to shift them to a safer place. They almost forgot the issue after posting security for the shed where the arms have been kept, Edison said.

After the explosives were recovered from his backyard while digging for a septic tank construction, Edison, the sole bread earner of his family, said the police personnel informed him that explosives would be removed in two days.

The 54-year-old fisherman told DTNext that while his daughter’s marriage has been scheduled in September this year, the presence of explosives appears like a bad sign in his house.

“Relatives and guests are hesitant to visit my house because of the explosives stock close to the house. There is a risk of the explosives going off anytime. Hence, we have decided to vacate the newly-painted house, Thangachimadam main road,” Edison said and added that a team from the office of the Controller of Explosives inspected the site ten days ago and instructed him to remove the water pump citing safety concerns.

SP Omprakash Meena, said that they were awaiting a court order to clear the explosives.
