Dennis, a visa verification officer in the Russian consulate, arrived at the hospital around 1.45 pm and spent an hour interacting with officials over the circumstances which led to the woman’s hospitalisation.

However, he refused to interact or share the details of the talks with the officials with media persons.

In addition to the consulate official, around 10 Russians who were visiting Tiruvannamalai also came to the hospital and enquired about her health.

Tiruvannamalai district judge G Maghizhendhi, who visited the hospital on Tuesday evening, told media persons that it was a shame that such an incident has happened in the temple town.

Conveying that he inquired about the treatment meted out to her, the judge said that he has instructed the police to provide adequate security for foreigners in the town.

Tiruvannamalai Superintendent of Police R Ponni, who visited the victim, said that the girl continued to weave in and out of consciousness.

Even when she was conscious, she refused to talk about the incident.

Informing that no case has been registered so far, the SP said that around 15 persons from the locality were being interrogated in connection with the case.

She added that further investigation was possible only after the victim revealed what befell her.

Ponni said that police were handling the issue carefully as the issue if not dealt properly can reflect on ties between India and Russia.

The 21-year-old Russian woman, who came to Tiruvannamalai from Mumbai on July 12, was admitted to the GH after she reportedly slipped into coma on Monday.
