On Saturday, district officials headed by Collector KS Kandasamy went around the path in a van to identify places for government departments to put up their shops/units. “While Aavin wanted land for putting up an Aavin junction, the horticulture department wanted space to set up a park. The Khadi department also requested space to set up vending machines,” the Collector said.
However, the highlight of the new venture is, “The administration at the request of the narikuravar (gypsies) community plans to allocate land for them to set up around 50 shops exclusively for their products,” Kandasamy said.
The Collector also said, “As soon as the departments submit their requirements, the idea will become a reality. However, the encroachments had to be cleared first.”
