Jilted law student murders teen, commits suicide in Sattur

Sources said that the incident occurred at D Reddiyapatti village in Sattur when the girl went to a public tap to fetch water. 

Investigations revealed that both M  Mathankumar, a 20-year-old, of the same village and student of Law College, Madurai and S Mahalakshmi (19), a student of District Institute of Education and Training, Vanaramutti, were in love for over a year. However, Mahalakshmi maintained distance from Mathankumar and their relations were strained for the last one month.

Irked by her indifference, Mathankumar stabbed Mahalakshmi on her stomach with a knife and then committed suicide. Residents rushed the victim to a primary health centre at Elayirampannai. However, the victim was declared bought dead. The bodies were taken to Sattur Government Hospital for post mortem. Elayirampannai police have filed a case in this connection.
