INO plans more outreach to clear misconceptions
Public outreach programmes will be organised at regular intervals to create more awareness about the Neutrino project and clarify any misconception regarding the project, said Vivek M Datar, Project Director of India based Neutrino Observatory (INO) in Theni on Saturday.

The Neutrino project, which is about to take off at Pottipuram village in Theni district, will no way affect the environment, he said and added INO is a major science project in India and it would be a bonanza for the people.
The Union Cabinet approved funds of Rs 1,583 crore towards the project, which has three modules to be located around the Ambarappar hillock near Bodi. According priority to safety, he said the project with the 50,000 tonne electromagnetic detector, globally the biggest, would come up at the safest location under the category of seismic zone –II.
The project would have over-ground lab, underground tunnel and underground lab. Currently, civil engineers are making designs for the project construction. About 90 per cent granite (2, 30,000 cubic meter) and 10 per cent of manufactured sand were estimated to be derived from this project.
Based on wildlife clearance and building approval plans, a report would be submitted to Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board for clearance. Such formalities were expected to be over in three or four months and the project would take off subsequently, he said. TV Venkateswaran, scientist, Vigyan Prasar was present.
