Work to set up AIIMS will begin in 3 weeks: Health minister C Vijayabaskar

“Efforts are now being taken to upgrade the Tirupur Government Hospital into a medical college hospital,” he said to the media after inaugurating a Public Health Centre (PHC) at Uppilipalayam in Palladam.

Stating that Tamil Nadu has been a role model for other states in delivering better health care services, the minister said that 108 emergency ambulance services maintain a response time of 8.5 minutes in Chennai and 13 minutes in rural areas.

“For Tirupur district, the Public Health Department has sanctioned a fund of Rs 20.74 crore, an MRI scan facility for Rs 6 crore and a maternity ward which is to be developed for Rs 24 crore at the hospital,” he said.

Pointing out that, 254 Primary Health Centres have been opened across Tamil Nadu over the past seven years, the minister said, adding that 30 PHC’s were opened in this year alone. “Further, one PHC will be created in a location with a population of 30, 000,” he said.

Participating in an event in Pollachi later, the health minister said that post graduation courses in medicine will soon be introduced in Pollachi Government Hospital. He inaugurated a new building at Kolarpatty GH near Pollachi to accommodate accident and trauma care, pediatric ward, surgery and a 20 bedded facility.

Stating that Chief Minister has insisted the centre to sanction funds for All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), the health minister said that works for the same would commence soon in three weeks.
