Vaiko warns State government over Moolakothalam

Warning of ‘emotional’ protests against the move, Vaiko recalled that Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and Fisheries minister D Jayakumar had assured in the Assembly on March 22 this year that they would build the houses 300 metres away from the memorial of Thalamuthu and Natarajan.

Stating that the assurance followed an all-party protest on March 13, he alleged that the buildings are now set to come up at a distance of just three metres from the memorial.

Vaiko claimed those living in the apartments near the burial ground wanted the removal of the graveyard and ‘made arrangements’ with the officials and government to implement their plans.

Labelling the move to build house for Adi Dravidars over a graveyard ‘unjust’, he asked, “Why Adi Dravidars should be given houses built on graveyards? Will government officials who planned the scheme live in those houses?”
