    The growing gap between teachers and students in schools should be bridged by conducting annual day functions, said minister for school education KA Sengottaiyan, on Thursday.

    Participating in a function to award best government schools and teachers from six districts in Coimbatore, Sengottaiyan said that there is a growing divide between teachers and students causing lot of problems.

    “Infact, many schools do not conduct annual day functions.

    They need to be conducted to bridge the gap between teachers and students.

    Also, Parents Teachers Associations (PTA) should be created with a service mind to improve the standard in government schools,” he said.

    At the function, the minister gave away model school awards and best teacher awards to awardees from Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tirupur, Erode, Karur and Namakkal districts.

    The minister also said that schools with poor enrollment ratio have been concentrated to increase admissions.

    Also, schools, without PTA was advised to form one immediately, he added. Earlier, Sengottaiyan inaugurated the training programme and career counselling, organised jointly by the School Education Department and The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), at Gobi Arts and Science College at Gobichettipalayam.

    “About 25,000 Class 12 students from government schools will be trained in Chartered Accountancy in the next five years. The students will be given a 15-days training to take up the examination,” he said.

    CA K Jalapathi, Chairman, Career Counselling Committee, Southern India Regional Council of ICAI, Pradeep Yadav, Principal Secretary, Department of School Education and Minister for Environment KC Karuppannan were among those other who took part in the event.
