Second round counselling cancelled
The counselling for admission to MBBS/ BDS course 2018-2019 session in self-financing colleges under the management quota has been cancelled. The session was scheduled to begin on July 16. The announcement comes days after the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on July 10 directed the CBSE to grant four marks each for 49 erroneous questions in the Tamil version of NEET exams.

When asked about the implications it would have on the seats allotted in the first round of counselling that concluded last week, senior officials from the Directorate of Medical Education said that the ball was in the CBSE’s court.
“We cannot comment on this till they come to a conclusion on how they are going to proceed. We will wait for the government to issue orders and follow accordingly,” said the official.
Meanwhile, parents and students who had secured admission for MBBS and BDS courses during the first round of counselling claimed that this development was extremely ‘discomforting’ and ‘scary’.
“The entire issue highlights how unprofessional the talent search process for future doctors of this country has become,” said Dhanasekaran, father of a student who just secured an MBBS seat at a reputed city college.
The first phase of the state counselling to fill the 3,393 MBBS and 1,198 BDS government and self-financed seats concluded last Saturday. A release from the selection committee of DME stated that the intimation regarding the reschedule of counselling will be hosted at a later date on the official websites.
