The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is working towards universalising elementary education of the age group of 6-14 years, while RMSA supports making quality secondary education accessible and affordable to all children in the age group of 14-16 covering Classes 9 and 10.

A senior official from education department said the Tamil Nadu government’s move will support the state in universalising access to school education from pre-nursery to Class 12.
“The new scheme will provide flexibility to the Education Department to plan and prioritize their interventions within the scheme norms and the overall resource envelope available to them,” he said. “It will also help improve the transition rates across the various levels of school education and aid in promoting universal access to children to complete school education”.
The official said that several hundred posts in SSA and RMSA could be surrendered to the government, which will save more than Rs 50 crore per year. According to him, the Teachers Education, a central sponsored programme, will also merged.
The component of Teacher Education shall be implemented through Teachers Training Institutes under State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT).
