Man kills widow after dispute over affair

Police said that Suguna (45), a widow of Arunthathyar Palayam near Wallajahpet, was in a relationship with Surendran (35) of Vangur.

Surendran’s wife objected to their relationship. A week ago, Surendran’s relatives went to the house of Suguna and threatened her with dire consequences if she did not give up the relationship.

After this, Suguna had started avoiding Surendran. But he pestered her to continue the relationship. When she refused to oblige him, Surendran too threatened to kill her.

Fearing for her life, Suguna went to the all women police station at Ranipet to lodge a complaint against Surendran and seek protection for her life on Wednesday evening.

Surendran came to the station on a two-wheeler and insisted that Suguna talk to him. When she refused, he pulled out a machete and hacked her to death on the spot, before escaping from the spot.

Police recovered Suguna’s body and sent it to the Wallajahpet government hospital for a post-mortem examination. A case has been registered and a searching is on for Surendran.
