According to Nalayini, resident of Sellur in Madurai, Selvakumar(22), her son, had a tumour and suffered from continuous fever. When they took him to a private hospital in Madurai, the doctors after taking all the tests told him to go for a surgery as they suspected that the tumour might be malignant. “We spent all our savings on the surgery and doctors assured that Selvakumar will be all right in 15 days,” she said.

However, five days after the surgery, when Selvakumar sneezed, a long cotton bandage came out. Shocked by this, they rushed back to the doctor, who performed the surgery. The doctor had claimed that he had left the bandage on purpose.

As Selvakumar’s condition deteriorated after the surgery, the same doctor had referred Selvakumar to a private hospital in Chennai, where doctors suspected that Selvakumar had cancer and started treatment without diagnosis. Since the treatment did not offer any relief, family members took him to another private hospital where they directed them to take a scan at Adyar Cancer Institute. In the scan, it was found out that Selvakumar was suffering from advanced stage of tuberculosis and not cancer.

Nalayini said that the wrong treatment landed her son in big trouble.

So, she sought the help of the state government for the treatment of his son, who has been diagnosed with tuberculosis and action on the doctors of the private hospitals who provided wrong treatment.

Earlier, she along with her husband Baskar submitted a petition with their demands at the CM’s Special Cell.
