2,500 students to benefit from GST training: School education minister KA Sengottaiyan
A total of 25,000 higher secondary school students would be imparted training in auditing practices as the newly introduced GST has increased the demand for auditors in private industries and several other departments, school education minister KA Sengotayyan said here on Wednesday.

Inaugurating new buildings constructed at a cost of Rs 1.61 crore at the municipal higher secondary school at Arunagirichatram near Arni, the minister said that 2,500 students would be imparted the training –first of its kind in the country – in the first batch, which would commence at Gobichettypalayam from Thursday.
Sengottaiyan expressed the hope that the new initiative would ensure job opportunities soon after the students finish schooling.
Among other things, he said that efforts were on to ensure that students were able to download lessons on their mobile phones.
Conveying that the new syllabus has been designed in such a way that it helped students to appear for any national level competitive exams with confidence, the minister said that the revised syllabus was on par with the CBSE.
Later interacting with the presspersons at Poomattu Colony in Cheyyar taluk, he said the smart class concept would be extended to 3000 government schools across the state. Further, one lakh teacher would be provided training in teaching/learning procedures in view of the revised syllabus for classes 1,6,9 and 11, he added.
While efforts were on to provide internet connected computers for students of classes 9 to 12, biometric attendance for teacher would be introduced from next month, he said.
Later in the day, the minister who inaugurated an administrative training for education department officials said that the state government was making all necessary efforts to post officials for the newly created post of BEO (Block Education Officer) in new areas.
There are 848 schools with less than 10 students, he said and added that the government was making efforts to ensure that the new BEOs would work in any place that they were posted to, he added.
Referring to the issue of cleaning toilets in schools, he said the government has planned to import 1000 vehicles from Germany with Rotary Club’s assistance. The 1000 vehicles would be used to clean toilets in 20,000 schools, he added.
On the lines of private schools, parents would be sent SMS about their wards attendance in school as soon as attendance-related issues were sorted out. Also, additional teacher posts would be created, he added.
The minister also presented dream teacher awards to 21 staff and model school awards to 13 institutions.
