As the race for the coveted DMK treasurer post may move on the fast track soon after the Assembly sessions, speculations are rife among the party cadre that former union minister A Raja would vie for the post.

DMK working president MK Stalin, who would be relinquishing the post as part of streamlining of the party with ‘one person one post’ principle, however may suggest former minister EV Velu for the post.
Sources in the DMK said that the working president had earlier handpicked a few senior leaders from the party for the treasurer post that he planned to give up after the party high command is of the opinion to scrap the dual postings in the party.
While a few were eyeing to make a claim for the post, a section of senior leaders expressed unwillingness to accept it and suggested that Stalin decide on the person to be appointed. It is said, there were a few names in the mind of Stalin and at last he settled with the selection of the former minister Velu after considering various factors.
Meanwhile, in a latest development in the party, former union minister Raja has launched himself into the race for the treasurer post. Confirming the information, one of the close supporters of Raja said, “Despite, he (Raja) hesitated initially, he found out that a few senior leaders have already shown a red face to the selection of Velu and so his candidature would get a clean support from the party office-bearers as well as from the party chief M Karunanidhi. So, Raja decided to contest for the post.”
“Between Velu and Raja, there is a bright chance for Raja to secure the post for his smooth movement with the leaders and the proximity with the family of Karunanidhi,” said one of the local leaders.
Supporters of Raja also claimed that he had earned good name among the leaders and the cadre after he secured a clean chit in the 2G spectrum case. Thus, once the race heats up, Stalin himself will pleased with the selection of Raja as the treasurer of the party, his supporters claimed.
