Police noted that the heavy wind fuelled the fire on grass that have grown more than fivefoot, posing a challenge for the firefighters. On information, police personnel from the Thiruporur police station rushed to the place and they alerted fire personnel and senior police officers.
“Fire and Rescue personnel prevented the fire spreading towards the bungalow, that was owned by Jayalalithaa.
The flames were spreading towards the land adjacent to Jayalalithaa’s bungalow,” police said. Police has not ruled out the possibility of miscreants throwing burning cigarette into the place. Many teak trees and casuarina trees have shed their dry leaves leading to spreading of the fire.
