    Maximum funds for education: Adi Dravidar department

    The State government has reserved around 91 per cent of the total budgetary allocation of Adi Dravidar Welfare Department for educational purposes.

    Of the total Rs 3,549.65 crore, about Rs 3,237.84 crore would be spent on education and related works, Adi Dravidar Welfare minister VM Rajalakshmi said in the State Assembly on Wednesday.

    Replying to the debate on demand for grants for her department in the House, Rajalakshmi said nearly 91 per cent of the total budgetary allocation was being spent on education related works like post-matric scholarship, free-matric scholarship, State government’s higher educational special scholarship, maintenance allowance, incentive for full-time PhD scholars and overseas scholarship.

    Funds allotted for various purposes

    • Rs 10 crore subsidy to promote entrepreneurship, land and economic development and self-employment 
    • Rs 4.50 crore to fix biometric readers in 1,324 Adi Dravidar students hostels 
    • Rs 1 crore to set up free UPSC/TNPSC coaching centres in ten districts 
    • Rs 25 lakh to identify two Adi Dravidar Welfare Schools and develop infrastructure there to set up at Centre of Excellence in Sports at Salem and Centre of Excellence in Academics at Tirunelveli
    • Rs 1 crore to develop master virtual class room at Govt Adi Dravidar School in Nandanam and upgrade smart classes in 57 Adi Dravidar schools in to virtual interactive class room
