    Counselling for ITIs commences, demand for seats high

    The counselling for admissions into government-run Industrial Training Institute’s (ITIs) and government quota in private ITIs started on Wednesday, with Minister for Labour and Employment Nilofer Kafeel distributing allotment letters to candidates.

    Tamil Nadu has 88 government-run ITIs and 484 private ITIs. While there are 24,891 seats in government ITIs, 9,244 seats are available in the private ones.

    However, for the combined total of 34,135 seats, authorities received as many as 63,171 applications.

    The counselling for the seats commenced across the State on Wednesday. The counselling for Chennai and Tiruvallur districts was held at Chennai and on the first day counselling for special category was conducted.

    From Thursday, the counselling for general category would commence and would go on till July 19.

    The counselling is simultaneously held in other districts through online mode and students are given the choice to select the course and institute of their choice.

    In the counselling held at Chennai, Minister Kafeel distributed the allotment letters to the first batch of candidates who participated in the process.

    Mangat Ram Sharma, Principal Secretary, Labour Department, and Jothi Nirmala, Commissioner, Employment and Training, were also present during the distribution of allotment letters.
