Sellur Raju a ‘model husband’: Jayakumar

It all started when DMK Deputy Leader of Opposition Duraimurugan, intervening during Raju’s reply to the debate on demand for grants for his department, said the Cooperatives Minister was repeatedly glancing at the gallery during his speech because his wife was watching from there. The Minister’s spouse was closely observing from the gallery to find out if her husband was at his calm best, as is he at home, or aggressive in the House, a sarcastic Duraimurugan remarked, leaving both the treasury and opposition benches to explode in laughter.

Minister Raju responded with a palpable smile and momentary stammer in his voice. As if the mild dose of humour was insufficient state Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar who plays Devil’s Advocate for the AIADMK regime, added spice to the debate later at the dying moments of the day’s business in the House by adding that Minister Raju was a model husband who should be emulated by the rest. Not to mention, an equally sarcastic Jayakumar made a statement about ‘gallery’ which easily reminded people of an old number from a superstar starrer.
