The School Education Department’s move to introduce the new attendance system is to ensure that teachers maintain 100 per cent attendance throughout the academic year.

A senior official from the Education Department told DT Next on Saturday that the attendance register will be stored in the main server, which is expected be kept in each district headquarters.

He also said that the district education officer will monitor the attendance regularly and the monthly data will be sent to the department at Chennai. “During the first phase, the project will be introduced on a pilot basis in selected schools,” he added.

According to the official, soon after the official launch of the mobile App, teachers will be instructed to download it on their android phones and register themselves.

The official said the App has been designed in such a way that teachers cannot operate it outside the school.

“Once the teachers record their attendance through the mobile, the App will generate a report containing time, location and the date,” the official pointed out, adding that the report will be immediately sent to the main server.

When asked if there is an alternative for those who do not have an android mobile, the official said once the project is successfully implemented, the government will provide smart mobile phones to the instructors.

The official also said that the State government is planning to introduce another app to monitor students’ attendance.
