The main objective of the committee is to prepare and plan the development of the school and supporting the school and teachers with better infrastructure in the process, thus enhancing students’ learning level and competence.

A senior official from the School Education Department told DT Next on Friday that community participation was considered as an essential element to decentralise the education governance to the grassroot level.

He said that the effective implementation of the detailed provisions, ensuring the child’s right to education along with other entitlements specified in the RTE Act, 2009, rests with the school management committee and local authorities.

Accordingly, the 42,167 SMCs, comprising entirely of parents, have been roped in Government and Government aided schools across Tamil Nadu.

“More SMCs will be working with the school this year, with expectations of active participation by the members throughout this academic year”, he added.

In the academic year 2018-19, the parent-teacher-students meeting will be held on a designated day in every school, where the class teachers of each grade will share the scholastic and co-curricular performance of students.

The community at large and SMC members, in particular, will be educated of the provisions of the RTE Act, 2009 and their roles and responsibilities while supporting the school.

The activities of the SMCs will be stored as data in the Educational Management Information System (EMIS). This will improve the availability of quality information for purposes of data analytics and data mining for initiating any major policy decision to improve the quality of education as well as the infrastructure of educational institutions.

EMIS is also synchronized with UDISE database at the Centre, maintained by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), for this data will be utilized by MHRD for finalization of annual work plan for the State. The main objective of the committee is to prepare and plan the development of the school and supporting the school and teachers with better infrastructure in the process, thus enhancing students’ learning level and competence.
