Marginal rise in registrations of lands
The state had registered a marginal increase in registrations after six years in 2017-18 fiscal.
Chennai
The number of documents registered in the financial year 2017-18 went up to 22.10 lakh, which is 9.01 per cent more in the registration of documents compared to previous year’s 20.27 lakh, going by the policy document tabled by Commercial Taxes and Registration
Minister KC Veeramani. Notably, this is the first time document registration has been positive since 2012-13 fiscal. The department had faced the worst years in 2012-13 and 2016-17 fiscals when registrations plummeted by 23.54 per cent and 19.80 per cnet respectively. Understandably, the revenue netted from registration had increased in 2017-18 fiscal with the department netting an all-time high Rs 9,121 crore, followed by Rs 8,562 crore in 2015-16 fiscal when the department had registered 25.28 lakh documents.
Ironically, last year’s marginal increase was a far cry from the 35.18 lakh documents registrations the department had achieved in 2010-11 fiscal.
