The federation, which interacted with TN school education (syllabus) secretary K Arivoli recently, said the official also promised that steps would be taken to ensure that text books reached the 65,000 Class 11 students within a week.

Referring to the new concept of industrial visit, federation state president S Ranganathan said “the government is yet to decide whether school teachers should suggest local industries related to the subject or the top officials of the department themselves will take up the responsibility of fixing the industries.”

Hitherto, industrial visits were part of the curriculum only in engineering colleges in TN.

“It is good to know that the government is now mulling to extend the same facility to schools which will, in addition to kindling the academic interest in students, also make them industry ready when they go to professional colleges” said federation honorary president D Ramachandran. Vocational teachers feel upbeat over the proposed move as they see it as recognition to their efforts.

“We have been agitating for decades for various facilities to ensure that the vocational stream produces students, who can become self-reliant and become small scale entrepreneurs,” added Janardhanan.
