The actor-politician visited the area after having received complaints on his party’s whistleblower app, Maiam Whistle. The residents of the area spoke of neglect as their grievances were not heard by any official.Â
After inspecting the damages and interacting with the residents, Kamal assured that he would take up their cause and ensure they get legal recourse.Â
Kamal’s party, Makkal Needhi Maiam, has also been using the app to collate questions to be posed to various government departments in the backdrop of the ongoing debate on demand for grants in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. The party raised a series of issues pertaining to the Revenue Department and Disaster Management Department.Â
The housing for all scheme came under the scanner with the question of how many plots out of the promised 3.50 lakh plots were allocated to date. Doubts were also raised about the discrepancies in use of funds for road repairs as pointed out by the CAG report on local bodies in 2016.Â
To the Disaster Management Department, the party brought up the question of training given to those who are engaged in rescue, relief and rehabilitation of those affected in natural disasters.Â
It pointed out concerns about a lack of early warning system despite Tamil Nadu being affected by a series of natural disasters such as flooding and cyclones.
